CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE

A Trilogy

      Should we deny Love is our name?
      "Don't fault us!  We're not to blame!"

      When things go wrong, use pretense!
      As if you can hide from your offense!

      When the flowers die in your bed,
      Look confused and scratch your head!

      Make the flowers compete for food;
      Then ask them why they are so rude!

      "Just because we poison the air;
      "They need never feel despair!"

      And when they finally snap in two,
      Lethal flowers come to kill you!

      Silly man says the answer is love;
      As if we're gifts from God above!

      One thing that is getting clearer:
      We must peer into our mirror!

      "But one fact I'm certain is true:
      "I can't afford to care about you!"

      "It's for love why we do what we do!
      "So don't tell me and I won't tell you!"

    I saw an angel speak from the sky,
    "Hear what I've heard both far and nigh!"

    ""I trust money!  With it I won't fall!""
    "Those who say that are the poorest of all!"

    ""I can't afford to know how I feel!""
    "But can you afford then not to heal!"

    ""Our money system I know is good!""
    "But you worship a god of wood!"

    ""The world's consumed by money madness!""
    "So search for love to find your gladness!"

    ""I surely wish that love could work!""
    "You blaspheme!  Say God's a jerk!"

    ""You can't argue with my success!""
    "But by your money you're possessed!"

    ""There's nothing else that I can do!""
    "Except what angels pray you do!"

    "When you live in a guilty way,
    "There's really nothing you can say!"

    "But if for your dreams you strive,
    "Everyone here gets out alive!"

      "Yes!  I have hope for my lies!
      "Though it's me that I despise!"

      "I have learned to hate the needy;
      "But do not say that I am greedy."

      "You won't hear me weep and moan!
      "Though I may crumble all alone!"

      "I'll never complain of my birth!
      "Even though I feel no worth!"

      "No doubting words come from my lips!
      "I love to sail on sinking ships!"

      "Do not fear for my tomorrow!
      "I'll tell you that I feel no sorrow!"

      "I feel good!  With no despair!
      "Ignoring poison in my air!"

      "No one really knows what's true;
      "It's all in your point-of-view!"

      "To your troubles be a stranger!
      "Tell the world there is no danger!"

      "And if you should ever drown,
      "I'd better not hear one damn sound!"
